😅 三个人们?Wait… That’s Wrong?!

😅 三个人们?Wait… That’s Wrong?!

Have you ever said something like:

三个人们 (sān ge rénmen) – “three people”

It sounds reasonable if you’re thinking in English… but in Chinese, it’s not correct!

Let’s fix it 👇

❌ What’s wrong?

In Chinese, 人们 (rénmen) means “people” in a general or collective sense, like “the people” or “people in general.”

It is already plural, so you should not put a number or measure word in front of it.

So saying 三个人们 (sān ge rénmen) sounds like “three the people” — which doesn’t make sense.

🛠 Let’s Fix It

Wrong sentence:

❌  三个人们 sān ge rénmen

Correct sentence:

三个人 sān ge rén – three people

💡 Use with a number and the measure word 个.

    🤔 When to Use 人们?

    Good question!

人们 (rénmen) means “people” in general — not a specific number of people.

📌 You use it when talking about people as a group, like:

    • ✅ 人们都喜欢自由。Rénmen dōu xǐhuān zìyóu.
    • 👉 People all like freedom.

❗ But don’t use 人们 with numbers or quantity words like “很多” (hěn duō).

    The correct way is:

    • ✅ 很多人在公园里。Hěn duō rén zài gōngyuán lǐ.
    • 👉 Many people are in the park.

    💡 Easy Tip to Remember

📌 Want to say how many people?

    • Use 人 with 个 or quantity words, like:
      • 一个人 (yí ge rén)、两个人 (liǎng ge rén)、很多人 (hěn duō rén)…

📌 Want to talk about people as a group?

    • Use 人们 (rénmen), but don’t add numbers or quantity words.
